What many enthusiasts don't realize is that vehicle manufacturers have preferences too.
Those preferences are backed by thousands of hours of engineering.
A Shift Knob Isn't an Afterthought
When a manufacturer develops a manual transmission vehicle, the shift knob isn't selected simply because it looks good.
It's one component in a much larger mechanical system.
The shift lever.
The linkage.
Bushings.
Synchronizers.
Transmission internals.
Shift throw.
Even the driver's seating position.
Every part contributes to what the driver feels through the palm of their hand.

Asking a Different Question

Instead of replacing one fixed weight with another, we began exploring whether drivers should be able to tune shift feel for themselves.
